MCG partnership will help save local mental health hospital

MCG SAYS THE NEW DEAL WILL ALSO GIVE THEM MORE RESOURCES WHEN IT COMES TO FORENSIC OR CRIMINAL PSYCHIATRY AND SCHIZOPHRENIA.THE COLLABORATION IS SET TO LAST 3 TO 5 YEARS...AND WILL CONTINUE IF NEEDED. NEED.OK SO ITS OFFICIAL BUT WHEN WILL THE ACTUAL TAKEOVER HAPPEN? HAPPEN?IMMEDIATELY AND THE DOCTOR SET TO TAKE IT OVER COMES WITH A GOOD RESUME.HES ALREADY TURNED AROUND ANOTHER PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL FACING TROUBLE IN OHIO AND HE DID IT IN JUST 7 YEARS.

after talks of making it private or closing it all toggether tonight theres a decision about a troubled local mental hospital.the doors will stay open and its nojust the patients that wl benefit. benefit.we take a closer look in our top story tonight on news 12 at 11. 11.good evening im meredith anderson. anderson. im richard rogers.thanks for staying up late with us. its a new partnership meant to benefit both parties. mcg gets more hands on learning and east central gets to keep its doors open. today mcg announced it will take over clinical services at the mental health hospital. news 12s katie beasley joins us now with why some say its a winwin. winwin. there was talk about closing east central...but this new arrangement will keep the mental health hospitals running and give medical students more patients to work with. wesley seabolt is a second year resident in the mcg school of psychiatry. he was drawn to mcg for this very program...but now he says...its even better. better.that wasne of the areas that mcg psychiatry lacked if you will was exposure to community level and state level mental health facilites. facilites.and now theyll get that exposure. thursday the school announced it will partner wi the georgia department of behavioral health and developmental disabilites to start running the local mental health hospitals. hospitals.very exciting times were going through alot of changes. it will give us opportunites to work with different populations it will put us out in the community and hopefully it ill foster a good relationship for the future. future.mcg says one in four people will suffer a mental illness...but theyre diseases that dont always get the same attention. attention.they arent as highly publicized as the diabetes and cardiovascular diseases...which is terribly unfortunate because they are as devastating or worse not only to the patient, but the fami and the communities. communities.the new setup will also help continue to run these hospitals. saving jobs and creating jobs something everyone can be happy about. about.in a time of great need in mental health it only seens logical that the local academic powerhouse be able to contribute. mcg says the new deal will also give them more resources when it comes to forensic or criminal psychiatry and schizophrenia.the collaboration is set to last 3 to 5 years...and will continue if needed. need.ok so its official but when will the actual takeover happen? happen?immediately and the doctor set to take it over comes with a good resume.hes already turned around another psychiatric hospital facing trouble in ohio and he did it in just 7 years.
