First Look At Augusta's New Water Treatment Plant



tens of millions of your tax dollars have gone to build a new water treatment plant for the city of augusta. it will be unveiled to the public this morning. news 12s will nunley is live on the hill at the new plant. stacey, this is a major expansion to the historic highland water treatment facility... facility... lets go overhead and show you where we are on this map. this is off highland avenue and wrightsboro. there has been a treatment plant here for years... years...but this is a whole new facility, that replaces the old treatment system almost entirely. we took our cameras inside, to bring you this first look... some finishing touches remain outside the highland avenue water treatment plant... theres some concre to be poured...a fancy new gate to install...but inside... inside...thousands of gallons of your drinking water, are already flowing through the pipes... pipes...heyre trying to make it look good, well, they are doing a good job so far for 25 years michael hopks has helped clean the water flowing though the pes of augusta. he earned his stripes in the older facility, and walks these new halls, as the operations manager. he says the biggest change is the amount of computer control... control...this is so much more updated, everything...now by computers stateoftheart computers watch over valves... water pressure... and the massive filters outside.they even watch over the doors... doors...i can tell everywhere everybody goes...i mean, you know hopkins says the millions of dollars has bought customers safer service and a more efficient treatment process. we still use some of the same chemicals we used before, but they are safer and more controlled water is flowing through these massive pipes...they have been tested for two months now. the halls clean as clean and sparkling, as the water that comes from the tap... tap...i mean, this building is quiet...its nice of course one of the big tests will be when the mayor comes by today to have a glass of water..the ribbon cutting will be at 10:00 this morning.and you are welcome to come. political leaders and the designers of this building are expected to be here too. adlib south carolinas governor is saying thanks, but no thanks
