RICHMOND COUNTY INVESTIGATORS FOUND THE BODY IN AN 18WHEELER TRAILER AT THE SMURFITSTONE RECYCLING PLANT IN AUGUSTA THATS ON WALKER STREET. DEPUTIES GOT THE CALL AROUND 10:00 THIS MORNING. AND WHEN INVESTIGATORS ARRIVED AT THE SCENE THEY SAW TWO LEGS HANGING OUT OF RECYCLED CARDBOARD INSIDE THE TRAILOR AND THE MAN WAS BURIED UNDERNEATH THE TRAILER HAS BEEN ON SITE AND LOADED FOR FIVE MONTHS BUT INVESTIGATORS DONT KNOW HOW LONG THE BODY HAS BEEN THERE. NOW THERE ARE SEVERAL TRAILERS PARKED IN THE AREA... AND ALL OF THEM WERE LOCKED EXCEPT FOR THE ONE WHERE THE BODY WAS FOUND. FOUND.LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 150200 YARDS DOWN THE RAILROAD TRACKS AND UP UNDER THE JOHN C. CALHOUN EXPRESSWAY IS THE SALVATION ARMY. THE FACT THAT THIS PERSON COULD BE A MELESS PERSON LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO REST OR ANYTHING OF THAT NATURE, IS DEFINITELY NOT RULED OUT. INVESTIGATORS SAY THE BODY WAS EXTREMLY DECOMPOSED. TRANSCRIPT: tonight. the dive team recovered the body about an hour later. a gruesome discovery at a richmond county plant mans body found in the back of a trailer and the coroner says it may have been there as long as 8 months.news 12s shalah sasse is covering this story shalah what do we know right now? lynnsey.tonight no one is sure how the mans body got there and another question investigators are trying to answer is is this a homicide? richmond county investigators found the body in an 18wheeler trailer at the smurfitstone recycling plant in augusta thats on walker street. deputies got the call around 10:00 this morning. and when investigators arrived at the scene they saw two legs hanging out of recycled cardboard inside the trailor and the man was buried underneath the trailer has been on site and loaded for five months but investigators dont know how long the body has been there. now there are several trailers parked in the area... and all of them were locked except for the one where the body was found. found.located approximately 150200 yards down the railroad tracks and up under the john c. calhoun expressway is the salvation army. the fact that this person could be a meless person looking for a place to rest or anything of that nature, is definitely not ruled out. investigators say the body was extremly decomposed. the coroner says the man has probably been dead since october. the body is now on its way to the state crime lab in atlanta. in the newsroom...shalah sasse...news 12. from crime team : an augusta commissioner says he has a plan to cut down on copper thefts... a trend thats turned deadly in augusta. corey johnson says he wants to make it impossible
